Starlink's Dual Role: Scanner for Earth's Atmosphere and Harbinger of a Crowded Orbit Future Kyoto University researchers have used Starlink satellites to map Earth's upper atmosphere, shedding light on a previously inaccessible region.
The team employed tomography, a medical imaging technique, to visualize atmospheric density at an altitude of approximately 500 kilometers above Earth's surface.
By using publicly available orbital data from over 1,200 Starlink satellites, they produced a two dimensional snapshot of thermospheric density.
